Human fist breaking cigarettes - anti-smoking conceptThere are so many benefits to stopping smoking… It drastically improves your overall health and reduces the risk of heart disease and cancer. On top of this you will save money! You will start to feel the positive effects of quitting smoking from the first day and it will immediately start to improve your wellbeing.

March 8th is National No Smoking Day! If you are thinking about stopping smoking it’s a great time to get started on the path to being a ‘Proud Quitter!’

1 billion adults currently smoke cigarettes worldwide (800 million men and 200 million women) and tobacco use kills almost 6 million people every year. It is predicted that by 2030 tobacco will kill 8 million people worldwide every year. This tells us that overall smoking prevalence is increasing all over the world however it varies between counties. In the UK less than 1 in 5 adults currently smoke cigarettes (2013) however this still equates to an estimated 9.4 million UK adult cigarette smokers! That’s a lot!

We are supporting national No Smoking Day as we hope that stopping smoking for even one day may encourage you to stop smoking for good!

Quitting smoking increases your chances of living a longer and healthier life! You will feel fitter and be more able to take part in physical activity, which in turn can benefit your mental health and wellbeing.

It will save you money! With the cost of cigarettes ever increasing smoking has become a very expensive habit! If you are smoking 20 cigarettes a day it is calculated that you are likely to be spending about £3500 a year based on the average cost of a pack of cigarettes (£9.60). £3500? WOW! Just think by quitting you could take your family on a fantastic holiday for the same price!

Once you stop smoking your body will start to repair itself and heal the damage those cigarettes have done. Within days you could experience a drop in heart rate, carbon monoxide levels returning to normal and your sense of taste and smell improving. In weeks you reduce the risk of heart attacks, improve lung function and reduce coughing. Finally within months to years you will improve symptoms of chronic bronchitis and cut the risk of developing coronary heart disease by a half!
