hydration-weekAs its Nutrition and Hydration Week this week, we would like to raise awareness on drinking water! How many glasses of water do you drink per day?

Our bodies are mostly made up of water and require plenty of fluids to replenish water levels.

Hydration is vital for brain and muscle function, your immune system, boost in mood and glowing healthy skin.

We Aren’t Drinking Enough Water!

  • You should be drinking around 1.6 -2L of fluid per day (8-10 200ml glasses).
  • In a recent study it was found less than 1% of people drink eight glasses of water each day, meaning majority of people in the UK are chronically dehydrated!!
  • Drinking water is the healthiest choice – has no calories and doesn’t damage the enamel on your teeth!
  • Other drinks provide hydration too such as milk and herbal teas. Tea or coffee can also provide hydration and even though they contain caffeine this doesn’t affect hydration in moderate amounts. Sugary soft drinks should be avoided as they contain unnecessary extra calories, stronger alcoholic drinks like wine or spirits are dehydrating.
  • Dehydration causes foggy memory, irritability, headaches and is one of most common risk factors for kidney stones!

Easy Ways To Drink More Water!

- Invest in a water bottle and keep it close!

- Set a realistic goal for every day!

- Infuse your water with fresh fruits or herbs – mint, cucumber, lemon and berries all work well to give water extra favour.

- Instead of fizzy pop top up cordial with sparkling water.

- Use an app to track your progress – Waterlogged and Daily Water help track your water consumption.
